Speech Translation is the procedure by which
conversational talked phrases are in a split second deciphered and talked so

language, the correction of speech recognition errors and multiple optional
inputs. Additionally, speech-to-speech translation also has its advantages
compared with text translation, including less complex structure of spoken

Real Time Language Translator-

Real-Time Language translator is a need for the
current generation. As Globalization is expanding day by day, more and more
people are migrating to other countries. More and more people are travelling to
other countries for tourism, employment, education purposes, etc. But the sole
problem that is common in all the scenario is the problem of the language gap.
Real-Time Language Translator looks forward to bridge the gap. Whether you are
travelling to a foreign destination or in your own diverse country like say
India, the product will help people speaking different languages to interact
with each other. With the advancement in the technology, the one thing that is
present all over the world, at every place is INTERNET. Your translator will be
connected to the internet which can act as the database for all the available
languages. The translator can be in the form of a remote device or can be in
the form of just your everyday earphones/headphones. It can work in any scenario,
in any condition at any time. Just imagine while travelling to other locations
with different language as your mother tongue, you need not hire a personal
translator or a guide, just switch on your very own translator and understand
every bit of words your counter-part speaks.

Implementing it is not so rock-breaking but can be
over costly. So, the main idea is to deliver the product to the general public.

Lots and lots of incidents took place just because of
the language gap. Just because you can’t understand what your fellow being has
to say. Imagine yourself in an emergency situation, in a far distinct location
with a different language. You were neglected just because you were asking for
help to other people in other language will no longer be an option, with the
translator you can converse and ask for any assistance. Instead of making any
one language at the global level as the sole purpose for conversations we can
all just be fluent in our own language and let the real-time language
translator do all the work.

The possibilities of you being conned or tricked in a foreign
location won’t happen just because the local tricked you. Not everyone know
English and I would say that not everyone should make an effort to learn it
because we will need it to converse with other people who speaks different
languages.

Let’s take our very own example of VIT, where most of
the people converse in English but few people here, for example, the local shop
owners, some auto drivers that are new here won’t be able to converse easily
with the students, so the translator here comes for the rescue.

The main idea is to deliver the product to the general
public instead of the 10 percent of the richest of the 10 percent. It should be
like the mobile phone but easy to deliver. The phones were just available to
the rich in the beginning. But with the advancement in the technology now most
of the people are able to afford the smartphone. Easy to deliver and easy to
use is the main viewpoint from my side. This product is in need as of now. Not
everyone can use google translate or any other service every time. This idea
will solve many problems and will take a step forward in making life of the

EXISTING
WORK-

In 1983, NEC Corporation demonstrated speech
translation as a concept exhibit at the ITU Telecom World (Telecom
’83).The first individual generally credited with developing and deploying a
commercialized speech translation system capable of translating continuous free
speech is Robert Palmquist, with his release of an English-Spanish large
vocabulary system in 1997. This effort was funded in part by the Office of
Naval Research. To further develop and deploy speech translation systems, in
2001 he formed SpeechGear, which has broad patents covering speech
translation systems.

In 1999, the C-Star-2 consortium demonstrated
speech-to-speech translation of 5 languages including English, Japanese,
Italian, Korean, and German.

In 2015, was developed Blabber Messenger –
speech translator for 23 languages.

The first version of Microsoft’s machine translation
system was developed between 1999 and 2000 within Microsoft Research. This
system was based on semantic predicate-argument structures.

The consumer-facing translation site known as Bing
Translator (previously known as Windows Live translator) was launched
in 2007 and provides free text and website translations on the web. Text is
translated directly within the Bing Translator webpage while websites are
translated through the Bilingual Viewer tools.

In 2011, the service was extended to include numerous
Microsoft Translator products through a cloud-based API, which
supports products available to both consumer and enterprise users. An
additional speech translation capability was introduced in March 2016.

And recently Google launched its Pixel Buds in 2017
that has integrated the complete translating module in the wireless earphones.

 

 

 

Design
Flow-

The prototype for the following project consist of the
following components:

The major need is of the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi module
because we want to make the translator as portable as possible.

The Bluetooth or Wi-Fi module will be connected to
your major device that will do the computing.

Module will be present in the wireless hearing aids
that would be connected to another portable device that does the computing
(let’s say your mobile phone or laptop).

There will be a separate software compatible with the
host’s OS in which we can set the presets of the languages we want to
translate(from and to option will be there. In ‘from’ we can enter multiple
languages and select the ‘to’ language i.e. the language we want as output)

The input from the earplugs’ microphone and transmit
it to the computational device. Which in turn translates it into signals and
the computational device’s software analyze the input and search it from the
database of languages using neural network and it also use machine learning to
improve the result day by day.
