Coronary
heart disease remains a major public health issue. Red meat and have been
associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease and hypertension.
However, it’s still unknown whether red meat intake influences the risk of
coronary heart disease. Therefore, association between red meat consumption and
coronary heart disease will be examined. A total of 300 Participants would be
selected from the Indian community from New Jersey state. Survey questionnaire
would be done and based on that participants would be divided into two groups. Using
sampling method two groups will be made in which the first group has the
participants who does not consume meat and the second group would the
participants who eats meat especially red meat. the participants age would be
above 50 years. The studies would be followed up for 10 years and observation
would be done to check the impact of red meat on coronary heart disease. the
data would be collected and analyzed by using survey questionnaire and logistic
regression model in SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) to check the
correlation between red meat consumption and coronary heart disease. If proved,
then the healthcare professionals will educate the people and aware them of
limiting or stop the consumption of red meat.

Introduction:

Diet
is considered as number one risk factor for the reduction in worldwide
inability balanced life years. Red meat is a critical part of aggregate dietary
admission in numerous populations, and its utilization is expanding globally.
Red and processed meats have been appeared to be related with expanded rates of
sudden death in a few cohort studies and meta-analysis. The conceivably
unfavorable health impacts of red meat consumption are expanding considerably
over the last few decades. Although 60% of the US population meet the
prescribed meat protein intake, substituting the sorts of meat with known
health risks with more beneficial choices might be helpful. Meat specifically
red or processed meat is often considered to be unhealthy because it contains
major source of saturated fatty acid. Whereas, Vegetables and natural product
are critical in human nutrition as sources of supplements and non-nutritive
food constituents, and additionally for the lessening of coronary heart
diseases. An over and again asked questions is whether the avoidance of meat or
other dietary segments plays an imperative part in reducing mortality. There is
some proof proposing that red meat utilization increases the risk of coronary
heart diseases. Specific dietary practices and lifestyles, subsequently, have
often given informative knowledge into the impact of diet and lifestyle factors
on mortality from specific causes. According to Indian journal of Orthopedics,
“prospective cohort study involves
the comparison of a cohort of individuals displaying a particular exposure
characteristic, with a group of individuals without the exposure characteristic
in the format of a longitudinal study”. The aim of this research study
is to use prospective cohort study and observe two different groups of people for
at least ten years from the same community in which one group does not eat any
kind of meat and the other group consumes meat especially red meat and examine
the impact of red meat on coronary heart diseases.

Background:

Previous
studies show that diet is the greatest factor in lifestyle and has an immediate
and positive impact on health.  Prospective
cohort study will be used to examine mortality and overall coronary heart
diseases between people who do not consume meat and people who consume meat
especially red meat.

Methods:

The
Indian community from the New Jersey state will be selected as will be getting
both the groups from the same community that is those who does not eat any kind
of meat and those who eat red meat. Survey would be taken through the
questionnaire as lots of data can be collected easily. It gives us exact
information which makes the researcher easy to analyze. Questions like do they
consume meat or not? what kind of meat they eat? How many times they consume
red meat in a week? Since how many years they are consuming the meat? Does
anybody in their family eats red meat? Any death in their family due to
coronary heart disease? These kinds of questions will be included in the survey
questionnaire. Using sampling method, 300 participants will be selected.

Two
groups would be made based on the questionnaire survey, first group will
include the people who does not consume meat and the second group will include
people who consumes meat especially red meat. The age of the participants would
be above 50 years. Follow up would be done for 10 years for both the groups and
observation would be done to check the impact of red meat on the coronary heart
disease. The data collected through the questionnaire would be analyzed by
using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) software.  Logistic regression model will be used in SPSS
to pool the data as the dependent variable is binary (0/1, Yes/No) in nature.

Results:

In
this research proposal, survey questionnaire would be used to collect and
analyze the data to find the correlation between red meat consumption and
coronary heart disease. As the independent variable is binary in nature,
Logistic Regression Model will be used.

Discussion and Conclusion:

If
we get the evidence regarding the correlation between red meat consumption and
coronary heart disease, then it will help the healthcare professionals to
educate the people and aware them of limiting or not consuming red meat as it
is hazardous for their health. Instead, they should eat healthy food like plant
based foods, beans, lentils, nuts, and rice as they are rich in nutrients.

Strength:
As per the research proposal regarding the hazardous effects on health in
consuming the red meat, people will get more aware and they might limit or stop
consuming red meats as it is a major source of saturated fatty acids which may
lead to coronary heart diseases and increase the level of cholesterol. As per
the statistics shown in research proposal, the assumption can be made that
people above 50 years who consumes red meat are more prone to die due to
coronary heart diseases. So, as per the severity of mortality due to
consumption of red meat, it might get proved that eating plant based foods or
foods that are rich in nutrients are good for heart and might lower the risk of
coronary heart diseases.  The actual data
will be collected, and correct methodologies and techniques will be used to
prove the correlation between consumption of red meat and coronary heart
diseases.

Weakness:
The data is less as it is only limited to one region. There are cons for the
survey questionnaire as people might be dishonest due to social desirability
bias or to protect privacy. There might be a bias issue as some participants
might like the idea of the research while others may be influencing to
participate based on the questionnaire.
