Pharmaceutical advertisement is one of the biggest profits compare to any other type of advertisement there is. Pharmaceutical companies are spending a large amount of money on advertisement announcement and commercials. The pharmaceutical companies have found that by leading customers into thinking their medicine is what they need, the profits have gone up.
The misleading commercials that are displayed all over the television and on magazines show that their medicine can cure whatever the symptoms may be, although these medicines are pre-scribed to the consumer, the consumer will recite to the doctor the symptoms as shown on the advertisement and will say the name of the medicine he/she thinks will work. Surveys reported in our medical literature reveal that when a patient comes into a doctor’s office and requests a specific drug that he has seen advertised in the media, the doctor writes the exact prescription the patient requested more than 70 percent of the time! “(Veracity, D. 2005). Doctors do not pay so much attention on the risk or side-effects that a pre-scribed medicine may have, if the consumer asked for it they must have done their research on it. Doctors as any other consumer are also drawn to advertisement or in this case misleading advertisement.
