Management is an important functional section of any organization whether in the business or educational industries. The main aim of this paper is to mainly discuss the essential role or function that managers play in the business industries and the education sectors of the society as well. Using an interview-based research, the author of this paper hopes to unfold several success stories behind experiences of two different educational managers. In this manner, the online process of interview along with the researches that the author performs, it is expected that this paper would give the best necessary answers to the questions that involve the competency level of managers in institutions.

Managers are among the key foundations of any organization. The fact that they are constantly faced with the challenges of dealing with the employees or staffs of the institutions that they work for, the managers are expected to perform their duties not only for their organization but also for their employees as well. With the emergence of the developments of the management systems today, the idea of managing people takes a better lead as the years progress. In this paper, the author, to be able to come up with the necessary details that are needed to complete the study being hosted herein interviews two educational managers. The said interview does take place based upon the aim of putting a clear description on how managers affect the way organizations are further operating for the people that they serve. Apparently, a manager also takes the responsibilities of a leader over a group that he is particularly assisting towards progress. This is the reason why management and leadership as it is naturally appears as aspects of organizational progress that goes hand in hand with each other for the sake of further effectiveness in the practical operations application.

The Essential role that a Manager Plays

According to Tan, an administrator and at the same time an educational manager of a small Korean ESL institution, “management is intended to accomplish predetermined objectives or goals. Providing maximum profits for owners, optimum benefits for personnel, best service for customers [students and their families], and extensive participation in community affairs are possible only when management is cognizant of the latest development in their own concern of industry” (2007).

True, the management team’s role in a business organization is not at all that different from the role it plays in educational institutions. The stakeholders are different but the demands are almost the same. This simply boils down to one point of concern, “excellent service”. Managing the whole team of the educators and other professionals who are involved in the job is indeed a challenge that managers have to face. The following are among the main functions that managers, educational managers at that, which managing personnel ought to take concern with n their duties:

·                   Planning

This involves the strong ability of the person to pre-arrange the activities that are about to take part in the whole year appointment of the educational institutions that they are working for. The constancy of the work that is required by planning is the main function that a manager performs. By being able to plan, a manager becomes highly trusted by the organization to render fine and directed service to the clients of the organization.

·                   Organizing

This usually involves the people force, which includes the faculty members as well as the non-teaching staff of the company. The manager is expected to have direct influence and connection with the people that are working hard for the organization. ·                   Directing

Communication and Management

With the interview performed, the author of this paper has noticed that there are certain similarities on how Mr. Noble and Mr. Tan dealt with the challenges that they have to face in their jobs. The response of both interviewees concerning the most important character of a fine manager addresses to one certain factor, the ability to communicate. Mr. Tan further elaborates the idea of communication as directly referring to it as a source of professional link between the subordinates and the subjects of authority with which the manager is appointed to take over. Both interviewees further pointed out that being able to communicate with the stakeholders of the organization makes the manager more competent and knowledgeable when it comes to his job. Mr. Noble further adds: “Both internal and eternal communication are important. If communication does not exist in the managerial activities, it is certain that there would be no good work done and no fine results to be expected. Hence, by knowing this, it is then certain that communication is indeed vital in the manager’s creation of a professional and accountable environment that could contribute to the success of his job completion.

The Leadership Theories and Their Application

According to Mr. Salvador Noble, an Educational Manager for a local High School Institution, there are two major leadership theories that he applies in his job to be able to complete the task that he is supposed to take notice of everyday. The said theories, as he mentioned are as follows:

·               Role Theory

According to an Internet source, role theory is further defined to be based upon the basic psychological beliefs of the people in the society that includes the following:

People define roles for themselves and others based on social learning and reading. People form expectations about the roles that they and others will play.

People subtly encourage others to act within the role expectations they have for them. People will act within the roles they adopt. In applying this theory with his colleagues and the school students, Mr. Noble further claims that when he helps them realize their worth as a person, they are better able to perform their expected duties.

·               Path-goal theory of leadership

This theory is further defined by the similar internet source as mentioned earlier which claims: “The Path-Goal Theory of Leadership was developed to describe the way that leaders encourage and support their followers in achieving the goals they have been set by making the path that they should take clear and easy.” (Internet) With the application of the said theory, Mr. Noble says that his colleagues are able to comprehend better as to what their important role plays for the institution they work for and thus they perform even better.

The Use of Effective Communication in Schools and Organizations

Communication is an important factor that makes a particular organization revolve around the cycle of success. It is one particular element that naturally makes the connection between the individual members of the organization possible. However, it is only through an effective use of communication shall it be noted as a prospect source of success for an organization. Without the effective use of the said factor of organizational connection, it could be observed that the organization would have a hard time following the success system that communication itself offers. What are the measures of both the positivity and the negativity of the usage of communication in organizational arrangements? How does this particular element of success affect the behavior of the members in a certain business organization? These questions shall be carried on through the discussions presented within the paragraphs that follow.

Communication and Its Role in Organizational Progress

The interpersonal connection that communication particularly creates between people around the organizations actually creates the environment that the said groups of people are supposed to work in. there are particularly five major areas with which communication is particularly involved in the progressive process of the organizations in business:

As based from the movie Coach Carter, it is indeed obvious that the change that he intended to make among his teams created problems with regards the reaction of the people. However, through the use of transformational leadership, a person who aims to implicate the changes within the organization certainly is given a fine chance of showing that he can face the impending challenges that may hinder him from keeping up with the needed changes. The individual’s that make up an organization are people who have their own needs and expectations from the company. If one particular leader is able to know and thus provide that particular need, it is then possible to have a more personal-focused system within the organization that could lead to a more progressive future for the entire business.

Hence, this particularly means that the changes that organizations are required to meet every now and then requires an amply amount of patience and courage from the leaders. Aside from that, it also requires sturdiness when it comes to decision making on the part of the leaders. The policy of “what must be implemented must be implemented” should always be carried on through by the leaders with an ample scaling of the ethical values that are involved within the situation. Yes, the fact that leadership is not an easy challenge that needs to be conscientiously met identifies the qualities and the attitudes that leaders or aspiring organizational head personnel should posses. Hence, a leader is then supposed to face the said challenges in full courage and knowledge of the strategies that need to be applied in particular situations that they are to meet; and among the challenges to be met is that of organizational conflicts.

Communication: How the Leaders of the Team Could Take Control

Conflicts in organizations are likely to occur in different levels influencing the growth of the entire business group. For instance, ethical measures of business operations may be noted as one factor that could contribute to the process. On the other hand managerial operations may also increase conflict between members of the business organization. Because humans are directly different from each other, it is undeniable that conflicts between opinions and personal ideas are likely to occur. This especially involves decision-making procedures in organizations. In a certain organization, decision making plays a very important role. In management, specifically decision making is considered the core of the job. The process of this so called task is quite intangible. Although two techniques are usually known, the formal and the logical judgment, it is still considered a complicated task.On this area of business existence, it is very important that the decision maker is able to understand how he should meet the requirements for what he is deciding on. Very little is known about how the human brain arrives at a decision. According to Martinez (1983), “Introspection sheds little light on the subject because it is difficult to analyze one’s own thought processes”. But although this is true, formal logic, which is usually learned in school, could always be applied when making decisions. This though would involve a certain standard agreeable result. Ethics as for example, is such an important aspect of decision making. It is much more considerable for a decision maker to follow some  morally acquainted process to arrive at a certain solution when facing a certain situation an organization. What is considered ethical when making decisions come to the picture? First, it involves analyzing or identifying an occurring situation., next is knowing and exploring the alternative solutions for the issue and third is the implementation and evaluation of the gained results. Another way of morally acceptable process of decision making is following the cycle of  evaluation, planning, and improvement. This is when a certain situation is dealing with the long-term goals of a company or organization at that. Thus, this would require good management skills, good practice and excellent performance. This cycle of process is usually useful when the decision maker is faced with a situation where the facts are clear  and there are choices such as right or wrong which are obviously presented. On the other hand, using this cycle on a more complex and complicated situation might not be that effective. It is very true that however people understand different situations in a certain company, it will naturally affect our performance may it be as a work force or that of a member of the society where that company is associated with. In turn, this would affect so much the existence of the company in a certain community.  Whatever people believe as ethical and morally acceptable is always considered by the company. By this, people should always be careful with how they use their perception regarding several goals and, visions and abstract of a certain company. This will indeed help the members of the organization coexist with the company and the other way around. Indeed, decision making is very important. And however people as individuals perceive on this aspect of business should consider the ethical and moral aspect of behavior. Whatever people think and however they understand situations is a vital part of a company’s existence.

This particular process of decision making should increase the capabilities of the managers, the leaders or the authorities of an organization to face the challenges of merging the elements of conflict with the attempted used procedures aimed to imply progress on the system. Doing so would involve applying tactics of meeting organizational conflicts along the way. These tactics include the effective application of leadership among the authorities of the organization towards the members of the said business groups. Also the responsibilities of the leader, which should always be his major priority for the benefits of his community; this will lead to a wellness and successful organization in the society that he serves. Wise leadership in spiritual, moral, and educational program is one of the major keys in a certain country’s future success; it is the best way to create a fruitful result that can give hope to the citizens of a particular society.

Within the discussion presented within this paper, it could be observed that communication is indeed a vital part of the major reasons behind the importance of building a fine foundation for the organization’s communication background. With the essential points of communication considered, it is undeniable that being able to connect with the members of the organization in a constant manner is indeed a must in organizational progress. Managing is a skillful job that requires a person to have his own operating skills. His ability to correlate with the subjects that he ought to manage is highly given importance by the organization. This is the reason why managers are considered the main foundations of the people force of each organizational system. Usually managers are the ones who are assigned to take the position of the ‘leaders’ of any working team. Hence, to be able to become a fine manager, there are necessary skills and characteristics that are needed for a person to be a competent manager.

Upon learning the essential factors that contribute to better managerial skills as well as the effective application of two major leadership theories that are referred to by one of the interviewees to be an essential part of management, the author of this paper is able to understand the importance of management and leadership in a better view. It has been further learned by the author of this paper that the role of managers and leaders in an organization is indeed essential for the institution’s existence in the society. Organizational administrators and owners give managers a high regard. This is the reason why it is essential for them to take their own place in providing their institutional subordinates with the ample service that they deserve from the managers. Certainly, through further studies and observation, the management systems could be well defined and further developed for further managerial progress. Certainly, this study has equipped the author of ample knowledge that would naturally help him understand that to be able to become a competent manager, one must be able to effectively utilize the resources of the organization. By doing so, he would be able to come up with the best possible results and benefits not only for the staff of the institution but also for the organization itself. Managerial competency indeed does not only depend on the individual performance that one portrays, on the contrary, it relies on the ability of the manager to co-relate and co-exist with his subordinates in a harmonious relationship.
