First of all, to maintain a higher GPA is to want it myself which is the most important step as well. Scoring higher GPS is not easy however, with the effort derived from wanting it badly, the urge to study and to do well academically is higher. In other words, wanting a higher GPA needs excellent organization. Some planner, assignment book or an organizer helps a lot by keeping track in everything such as assignments, tests, exams and projects. Secondly, attending classes on regular basis is as important.
Lectures and other activities organized by the course I’m taking would be helpful in areas I’m not familiar in as well as subjects I’m weak in. Besides that, missing out classes not only gives a bad impression to the education board but also it’s a disadvantage to me as I won’t be getting any important points from lecturers. Other than that, classmates might not want to share any information due to my absence to classes. Hence, showing up for classes is significant for aiming a higher GPA.
Next, time management is also very crucial for me to obtain higher GPA. It is very important to put aside any other activities and distractions to focus on studies. Then, by setting a specific time along with the amount of study period each day or week works best in a way to stay on the right track with each and every subject set in course. However, putting other activities aside doesn’t mean I don’t have to involve in extracurricular such as sports, drama, music or chess.
These extracurricular help the brain to function actively in studies by relaxing the mind in times of stress. Therefore, time management for both studies and extracurricular is significant for maintaining higher GPA. Besides that, a study group is helpful for me. Forming and/or joining a study group with classmates or other friends could contribute much to me by exchanging knowledge, similarities and differences. I must understand my strengths and weaknesses beforehand, then meet up with group members and form discussion in the library, for example.
Also, a study group can explore online study forums and expand study groups at sites in which students all over the world can take part in discussion or questions and/or papers along with study skills. Furthermore, I should always be prepared before class. At the beginning of every term, syllabus, course outlines will be handed out by professors which tells what will be covered in every class session including assignment titles, test dates, quizzes questions etc.
These informations are important to be transferred into my planner or organizer immediately who will save a lot of time looking for it over and over again as well as to remind myself of these important dates. Getting ready for each and every subject is an advantage that I can understand more or less in class. Preparing books and literatures on hand is also helpful to learn more during lectures. A counselor plays a role in supporting me throughout my years in university. Studying or having exams around the corner might give a lot of stress and pressure to most of the students who targets higher GPA.
Hence, going for a counselor could help in giving moral support since an international student like myself can’t be near to my own family. Peers at my age might help but a counselor might be the first choice when it comes to the serious matter such as finals and stresses. Being depressed with no one to talk to seems to the main reason students are committing suicide and therefore, I would recommend students including myself to see a counselor and discuss about the depression or stress. Finally, numbers in fact, matters.
Achieving an average point isn’t just a number especially for fresh graduates. Employers tend to look for GPA grades in fresh graduates that tend to give an idea to the employer of what kind of employee I might be. Other than that, GPA is much important for students to graduate school after completing undergraduate work. Consequently, all the factors mentioned above have a part in maintaining a higher GPA throughout my studies in UIU and it will be my plans to achieve a better grade in Upper Iowa University.
