Mark Twain said, “Many a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising.” While a lot has changed in the world of advertising since his time, Twain’s observation still holds true today. I want to major in marketing, and specialize in advertising, so I can achieve my goals.
My long-term goal is to work for an advertising and public relations firm. I want to plan media campaigns for small, start-up businesses. Their advertising budgets may not be as large, but their ideas and services are often just as innovate as those of larger companies. The idea of helping a little-known company secure a competitive edge in the marketplace is exciting.
When I watched television as a child, I watched for the commercials as much as the program. My family loves to tease me now about how I would waddle around the house singing the Oscar Mayer jingle. Today, I see those commercials in a completely different way. I look forward to pursuing my goal of working for an advertising firm and being a part of designing advertisements for television and print media.
I have always had a creative mind. I love to draw and write song lyrics, and I love creative writing. I am constantly improving in these areas, and coursework in marketing and advertising will allow me to develop these skills into professional abilities. I will be a self-motivated and dedicated student, and I eagerly look forward to the opportunity to learn everything I can about this field.
With the right education, I can make a small thing large, as Mark Twain said. Not only will I be able to improve myself, but I will be able to help small businesses grow through compelling marketing and advertising.
