This can guide to higher retention rates as students become more associated with the institution. Faculty can use social media as a way to get students to partake. Many students are naturally introverted in person, and many may not speak out in a classroom, but that may not be the case on social media.
Today’s students grew up on social media, and for many, it is the expected way to interact. Teachers can ask questions on social media such as Facebook, Whats app, Twitter and students can answer those questions, by including an exact hashtag. This not only allows the faculty to come across the student answers but also allows other students to notice what others are answering and create a dialog.
Social Media can be constructive for group projects. Social Media sites can be supportive to enhance this ability as the students can hold meetings in real time and work on their projects. This enhances the possibility that they will also spend time together working on projects and may not have to make time to meet in person continually as the project progresses. Videos, resource websites, and tutorials can be united very easily with the entire classroom at the click of the button.
This eliminates the need for students to copy website links from a brochure and have the risk of mistyping. It is a lot easier just to click a link than to type it. Video Conferencing in the Classroom is also an important benefit. Using social networking sites such as Google Plus will let the use of Google Hangouts. These sorts of resources can be applied to set up class sessions where everyone can collaborate through video in real time. Google Hangouts can also be saved for future orientation, in case one of the students has a conflict and can not make the meeting. Social media applications are creating opportunities and spreading higher studies’ opportunities information very faster than any other medium.
Students entering the workforce can utilize social networking sites to network and get employment. With LinkedIn, students can start a professional web presence,upload a resume, research a target company or school, and tie with other job seekers and employers. Institution career centers and alumni associations are using Twitter to broadcast job openings and internships. Students should track businesses or professional organizations on Facebook and Twitter to stay updated on new changes and important developments in their field. The use of social media in higher education is altering the nature of the relation¬ships of students and teachers. Social Medias are giving a unique phase of communication amongst students and teachers and amongst learners themselves.
