Most of an urban people have higher income and better opportunities than small town people. Based on the location and surrounding of a person, it can influence his/her dreams, objectives, and goals. The person who grew up in New York City is most likely to have a dream of working in Wall Street (Investment firms, Banking, Business Analysis) or 5th Avenue (Designing, Modeling, and Retail Businesses). And the person who grew up in country side around farm lands is most likely to dream of becoming a great farmer or entrepreneur in farming business.
The city people are more adapted to the diversities and changes because they’re more interrelated with constant changing of global businesses and global affairs. In the other hand, the country people are more content with their lives and more generous than city people. That is why most of the country people way of lifestyles is a lot simpler and their life expectancy rates are also higher than unban people. Unlike the small town people, the city people have to struggle day to day with their transportation. Commuting to work or school is almost like a nightmare.
Public transportations [trains, buses], roads, and railways are no match for city population. Those over crowed buses and trains with passengers are almost impossible to get in or get out without pushing or touching other people. To commutes with taxi or your own car can be a lot frustrating than taking train or bus because of a busy traffic, where cars can only move bumper to bumper. Based on my experience it took me one and half hours to travel seven miles in the New York City. So, basically their patient and energy are mostly consumed by traveling.
But for the country people driving to work/school is a lot more pleasurable than the city people. There is almost no traffic jam, no pollution, and great nature scenery on the way. On the down side, they are lacking in public transportation system. They do not have many choices like the city people for commuting. They have to fully rely on their own vehicles. Most of the small town people live in spacious houses with gardens, which is another fact that make them more positive and healthier. Healthy Living Site noted, “Studies show that even a quick nature break can leave you happier, healthier and calmer.
Research in the field of color psychology, shows that gazing at the green expanse of a lawn or forest for just 3 minutes, can reduce levels of cortisol, a hormone that contributes to grumpiness. ” Unban people; by contrast, live in high rise buildings where they divided into many units called apartments, some of them do not even have a window. They are surrounded by steels, concrete and bricks skyscraper. The nature is scarcely to be found in the city. Without a nature break they’re most likely to be suffering from depression, loneliness, and isolation. Small town people tend to care more about community and helping other.
Richard Wright, author of “The Moral Animal” said, “There are at least two reasons integrity and honesty make particular sense in a small and social setting. One is that (as everyone who has lived in a small town knows) there is no escaping your past… A second reason why being nice is so fruitful in a place like Shrewsbury is that the people you’re nice to will be around for a long time. People in small towns tend to stray more from their selfishness because they are continuously confronted with reoccurring issues such as relationships, social status, and current events. But for the urban people they are always in the hurry and never have time for anything except for themselves. The stereotypes of city people are arrogant, self-righteous, and self-center people. They lives closely to one another, each apartment divided by layer of wall. But it is very normal not to know each other or even to greet. The high crime rate and diversity of the city led residents to withdraw into themselves, less likely to trust people, and surround by few close friends. They are more caution and less friendly to the strangers.
The lack of community cohesion plus fast-paced world city life made city dwellers not care what the world think of them or how the world criticized them. David Myers’s text, Social Psychologist stated that “Living in seas of people, the city dweller has easy access to escaping their own personal problems, while the rural dweller’s issues are made public. In the small town an individual’s actions could be gossiped over in hours. The city wouldn’t even blink an eye. ” During my research for my paper “Urban people versus rural people”, I was very found by a blogger name Steamguy from www. itantalk. com, how he compares the two different types of people in humorous ways. Here are his statements as follow:
1. City People: Drive around with the windows down just to share their loud obnoxious music Country People: Drive with the windows down to enjoy the fresh air 2. City People: Want all the side streets plowed when it snows Country People: Get to work on time anyway in spite of the snowdrifts 3. City People: Drive slow after pulling out because “the car’s cold” Country People: Have been driving for 15 minutes already and want to get to town; now this idiot pulls out and goes slow . City People: A “big night out” is dinner and a movie Country People: A “big night out” is eating on the back deck, watching the sun set 5. City People: Helping friends means empathizing over a phone call Country People: Helping friends means rolling up your sleeves, busting and stacking some wood 6. City People: Trading favors means showing a friend how to download music from Itunes Country People: Trading favors means helping a friend level a piece of ground 7. City People: A summer job means part-time at Wal-Mart Country People: A summer job means humping and stacking hay bales . City People: The Internet is LIFE itself, there are so many cool people out there reading my blog Country People: The Internet is slow and generally not worth too much time fooling around on it and besides, it’s full of wackos In my conclusion there is no hard evident or a factor that can determine the urban people nor the small town people are better. Both of them have positive sides and negative sides. City people rely too much on technology and gadgets. The small town people rely more on human power.
The urban people mostly work in the offices and do most of their activities (dating, dining, entertainments, and sport games) indoor. The small town people work outside and do most of their activities outdoor. In term of money, education, and challenges unban people are fulfilled with it. But in term of environment, physical activities, and healthy foods are out of picture for them unlike small town people. Small town people may not have all the money, worldly knowledge, and amenities like city people. But they do enjoy their life better and live longer than city people.
